Copenhagen is on the north-east coast of the island of Zealand in the Baltic Sea with continental Jutland to the west and the island of Funen acting as stepping stone between them. The city unfolds slowly to the visitor, perhaps not having a stunning impact but rather a calm and gentle appeal. With 1.3 million inhabitants it is easy to traverse with much of the inner-city well suited to pedestrians and cyclists and a bus and rail system that is almost a paragon of public transport.

Copenhagen Hotels and Accommodation
Like most Scandinavian cities budget accommodation requires some hunting to find. The general standard of hotels is very good however, but given that Copenhagen is a sought-after convention destination and has an influx of tourists during summer rooms can be scarce during these peak demand times. The main hotel district is along the western side of the Central Station in the area called Vesterbro with a good selection of others in the classy suburb of Frederiksberg. Fot great value Hotel deals in Copenhagen try HotelClub.

Copenhagen Airport
Copenhagen Airport is in Kastrup 9km south-east of the city and is Scandinavia’s main air transport hub. It is a clean, modern and efficient facility with a good range of shopping, dining and information services. There is a very good rail system that makes the journey into Copenhagen Central Station about 12 minutes. Taxi trips are 15 minutes outside peak times and will cost about 170kr. Sightseeing Highlights
As Denmark’s capital for 500 years it is home to a superb collection of the nation’s cultural showpieces. Museums of history, art and anthropology are concentrated around the city’s core and provide a beautifully presented insight into the Danes’ development, values and aesthetic wonders. As an old merchants’ port (from whence is derived its modern name) Copenhagen has an appealing waterfront district with rows of photogenic pastel-coloured townhouses, its great icon the statue of the Little Mermaid and the little Venice area of Christianshavn criss-crossed with canals and bridges. Add to this a lovingly created civic infrastructure of fountains, parks, plazas and gardens, a vibrant café scene and all around the open-minded and relaxed Copenhageners and the city will charm you with its pleasant embrace.
